History

AmEuro was formed from the ashes of Aero Airlines on March 15, 1998. Aero Airlines changed to become a bush operation only in Alaska named Alaska Gold. Members of the airline “purchased” the airline and changed it to AmEuro. Jeorg Platzen, Marteyn van Doorn, Andrew Barter, and Chuck Topinka were the CEO, CFO, COO, and Chief Trainer.

In April of 2001 Joerg Platzen stepped down from the President position and became the business liason. Andrew Barter moved into the President position and still remains as the President to this day. Bill Massicott stepped into the COO position. Bill had been with the airline for a number of years. Later in the year Joerg left the airline in 2001 to focus on his Travel Agency business. Chuck left a little while later to run a Business Jet virtual airline and Marteyn van Doorn got out of the virtual airline industry. We will never forgot these people as they were the beginning… our roots.

January 6th, 2002, saw AmEuro expand into the charter division with AmEuro Escape. A few months later AmEuro Cargo was opened. Together these allowed us to grow our route system and expand into Asia and South America.

Finally, in 2004 AmEuro was no longer a subdomain and registered AmEuro as a .com which is the site you are viewing now. Since then we’ve seen ups and downs. Since the announcement that MS had let their Aces division close it has been a very trying time for all virtual airlines and AmEuro has been no exception. However, we had confidence that MS would re-open the division as Flight Simulator is the best selling flight simulation software of all time.

The story of AmEuro is not over yet. I, Andrew Barter, will continue to serve the VA and FS community and AmEuro will be around until my passing. Also, I’ve taken on other roles such as a staff reviewer for SimFlight.com (still doing this job) and was part of the support team of SimMiles.com from December 2010 to May 2011. I also tried my hand at a few of the other VA management systems such as VAFS and Simfly.eu. I found those were sufficient but lacked the warm feeling of a VA that’s run from the heart of someone who loves the flightsim hobby.

Join us and be a part of the future of AmEuro and Microsoft Flight upon it’s release. We haven’t forgotten X-Plane and the upcoming release from Aerosoft. X-Plane is currently supported and we’re looking forward to MS Flight and Aerosoft’s version, too.Don’t forget to try FlightGear. It’s been growing and improving particularly over the last year.
